As you head out to demonstrate today, here are six critical steps to ensure your safety and legal protection: 1. Carry a Copy of Your ID: While it’s your right to protest, unforeseen circumstances can arise. In case of illegal arrests, having a copy of your identification card will be crucial. You can hand it to someone else in the protest to pass on to the organizers, allowing our team of 53 available lawyers to step in and defend you, ensuring your swift release. 2. Stick Together: Make sure to walk in pairs and look out for each other. If you’re detained or harassed, your friend can notify the organizers and capture crucial moments. It’s your right to record interactions with the police, so keep your devices ready to document any encounters. 3. Do Not Carry Weapons: Avoid bringing anything that could be considered an offensive weapon. Carrying such items could give the police a reason to disrupt the protest. Stay peaceful to maintain your legal standing. 4. Cooperate with Law Enforcement: Respect the police but remain vigilant about your rights. A cooperative attitude will help ensure a smoother demonstration. 5. Know Your Rights: You have the right to communication, humane treatment, and respect, even if you are arrested. If any of your rights are violated, speak up confidently. Insist on being treated in accordance with the law. 6. Remain Silent Until You Have Legal Counsel: You are innocent until proven otherwise.
